I posted a picture on sunday to my instagram account, instagram.com/p/DGblZmRRuTDUDwtI2cH-DsCGR-4EluzOzTVD0k0/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== which is the sign that I use every year to let me know when beekeeping season has officially started for the year. As soon as I see that sign, I know its time to fasten my seatbelts for the race is about to start ..... and sure enough, 2 days later, bees are flying. I only check to see if there are flyers and I tilt the hive to see how heavy or light it is. The first warm days the bees break cluster, they are doing house keeping and orientation flights for the bees that were born during winter and they are looking for food. If the hives are light and there is a cold spell forecast in the near future, like later this week, I will add bee fondant to those hives ... but not a lot of fondant, just enough to get them over the hump. With elderberry showing signs of life, spring is literally just around the corner
