The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary report on the tragic skydiving plane crash in Butler, Missouri that claimed the lives of 12 people. While the report rules out several early theories, it stops well short of identifying a probable cause.
In this video, retired airline captain Captain Steeeve breaks down the NTSB's findings from a pilot's perspective, explains what investigators have learned so far, and discusses what the report means—and just as importantly, what it doesn't mean.
The preliminary investigation found no evidence of a pre-impact engine malfunction, confirmed the aircraft was operating within weight and balance limits, and noted that security video captured the airplane entering an increasingly steep left bank shortly after takeoff before impacting the ground. However, the NTSB has not yet determined why the aircraft departed controlled flight, and the investigation remains ongoing.
