Welcome to day 10 of our winter visits with the goats! Not sure I can pull off another 15 days, but we’ll see! I appreciate all of you along for the road!
For anyone keeping track, we did skip yesterday. We put in our snowsuits and went to the beach to explore…so beautiful!
Today Abby was bred, which means 10-13 goats are bred so far for kids 4/10/26-5/4/26! So exciting!
The earliest bred: thistle, plum & charlotte have embryos that are about 1/2 and inch long. They are beginning to have a heartbeat and the start of a digestive system. I will do ultrasounds late December/early January to confirm breedings.
We plan to breed about 20 mamas and hope to have a late batch born in late June/early July to spread out the sweetness.
If you live in New England and are dreaming of goats, now is a lovely time to reach out and get in our list for summer 2026 kids. We should have 50-60 born.
“Winter is an important season in our lives. It is more than a time of coldness and snow. It’s a time of going within. A time to rest from the work that’s been done, a time to prepare for the lessons ahead. Long for the sun on your shoulders, but let the frost and cold come. The ground has been left fallow in preparation for nourishing the seeds of new life.
Honor winter’s lesson, this is still a season of growth. Trust what’s being worked out in your soul. The snow will melt. The sun will shine again. The time will come to remove your heavy garb and return to the activity of life.
Cherish the winter. Cherish its quietness, the time of going within to rest and heal. Cherish this time of preparation that must come before new life. Cherish the hope that lies beneath the snow.
See the pine trees and learn their lesson. Pine trees are nature’s reminder that growth continues even in the winter.”
