Notch Peak with summit elevation just under 10,000 ft boasts the second highest drop in the CONUS (next to El Capitan and Half-Dome). It's 4,450 ft down to the river bed! The hike starts 50 miles due west of Delta in Southern Utah, just north of Sevier Dry Lake Bed.
Base-jumpers and wing-suiters often dive off from the top and fly to the valley below.
Statistics from Summit Post: El Capitan (summit at 7,569 ft) has a 3,000 ft pure vertical drop (close to 90 degrees). In comparison Notch peak (summit at 9,654 ft) has a 2,200 ft pure vertical drop, yet it is 4,450 ft from summit to valley floor. In comparison the Northwest Face of Half Dome (summit at 8,842 ft) has a pure vertical drop of 2,000 ft and is 4,400 ft from summit to valley floor.
