I'm so glad I finally got to read Senlin Ascends by Josiah Bancroft. This is book 1 in the Books of Babel series. I loved this book, and it's completely different from most of the fantasy I have read before, so if you're looking for non-traditional fantasy, you should absolutely check out Senlin Ascends.
