For #WhyNotWednesday Im cruising through some of my favorite musicals on shuffle as self-care. Since my first surgery when I first became bed bound and unable to sit or stand for long periods, I found the magic that is musicals on shuffle; where I can just forget about every little thing. Similar to acting on stage, listening and singing along to musicals allows me to jump from story to story, character to character, and take a break from myself, a break from my surroundings. Its #LetsTalkTuesday so I wanted to share how assumptions about my health based on my appearance often invalidates and erases my experience. This happens honestly, with people who know that I have been having health issues (but denying its severity), or doctors I am trying to seek help from, and my appearance is enough to dismiss my case. Chronic illness has many faces, many colors, many sizes, and yes, we can sometimes look put together and we can look cute. Sometimes putting on a nice outfit and some make up is the highlight of our day, but were still sick. Looking nice does not make us less sick.
