Noise-induced deafness has become the top occupational disease in Singapore. According to a report by Manpower Ministry, more than 300 such cases were reported in the first half of this year alone, accounting for close to two-thirds of all cases. Those in manufacturing, especially the metal-working industry, are at the highest risk of developing the condition. Firms as well as authorities are coming up with measures to protect their workers from this condition. Eugene Chow reports.
