Finally I have found footage of the great Mr Sato, legendary coach and ten time Japanese men's champion (1956 - 1966) in what was his final amateur performance at the 1966 Worlds in Davos. Despite a few mistakes you can really appreciate the glorious quality of his edges, his incredible speed, fabulous spins and huge jumps. It's no wonder he gained such a wonderful reputation for teaching basic skating. Along with his wife, the 1964 and 1968 Olympian Kumiko Okawa, he passed on his talent to a whole generation of fantastic Japanese skatersled by his own daughter, the 1994 World champion Yuka Sato and also including 2-time World Champion, Miki Ando, Yukari Nakano, Fumie Suguri, Takahiko Kozuka and of course the legendary Mao Asada in the second half of her career.
