This is why so many people avoid touching the coolant filter shutoff valve on Mack and Volvo trucks — and it's not because it's hard, it's because it's designed to trap debris right around the valve. Go to turn it off, it's seized, and it snaps clean off. Then it's buried deep in there and you're pulling everything apart just to slide-hammer it out.
Here's our trick before it gets to that point: spray penetrant on it, let it dwell for a couple of days, then try it gently with pliers. Patience beats force here every time.
