It sounds biblical. St. Paul does say that it is better to marry than to burn with passion, and the Christian tradition has long described marriage as a remedy for concupiscence. But does that mean marriage actually cures the vice of lust?
In this video, I look at what St. Paul is actually saying in 1 Corinthians 7, the forgotten concept of the marital debt, what Christianity means by concupiscence, and why chastity remains necessary even within marriage.
Marriage gives our sexual nature a proper context, but a wedding ring doesn’t magically turn vice into virtue.
