Are electric vehicles really ready for mass adoption?

In this clip from Cars & Culture with Jason Stein, Christian Meunier, Chairman of Nissan Americas, shares a candid perspective on the current state of EVs and why affordability remains one of the biggest barriers to widespread adoption.

Nissan was one of the earliest pioneers in electric vehicles with the launch of the Nissan Leaf in 2010, but Meunier explains why the EV transition has proven more complicated than many expected. From high development costs to the reliance on government incentives, he argues that electrification must ultimately work for both customers and manufacturers.

Meunier also explains why hybrid technology may serve as the bridge to electrification, and why the industry must focus on one critical issue moving forward: affordable transportation.

With average new car prices in the U.S. approaching $50,000, the conversation about electrification is becoming less ideological and more pragmatic.

In this clip:
- Why EV adoption hasn’t happened as fast as expected
- The real cost challenges behind electrification
- Why hybrids may be the bridge to EVs
- The growing affordability crisis in the auto industry
