The chests with Mujina in them usually are the chests with three decorative gold bands on each corner (not two). It it can be the red chests or the black chests, but it's not guaranteed to be a Mujina if it has three bands. I've only seen it in chests with three bands, never two bands. There's also one in a Six Jizo offering box (whistle gesture doesn't work on that one).
You can just use the whistle emote to get the Mujina to pop out and greet you. Then it will perform a gesture from your first page of gestures. Just quickly match the gesture it does and voila! You get all the goods and don't have to fight your clone!
