Momiji is the first alternate character you get to play as, and she's probably the weakest of the bunch. She lacks a few of the basic Ninja Gaiden tools that the flow of combat is built around - she has no Flying Swallow equivalent (a gap closer), she can't Wind Path to stun enemies and set them up for a combo, and she has no shuriken to stun enemies from a distance. Instead, she gets a double jump (which is decent), and she can use Ultimate Techniques in mid-air, at the height of her second jump - which is great for chaining UTs. I didn't want to use that too often though, so I was stuck dealing with regular combat.
The best way for her to get in on an enemy is to jump/double jump, use the bow to stun whoever's nearby, and typically do an on-landing 360 heavy attack. It works pretty well, but sometimes she isn't going to target the guy you're aiming for, and there's decent chance it won't end well after that. She doesn't have many good combos either, and even her Izuna Drop equivalent isn't totally reliable (if an enemy loses a limb on the last hit before the grab, they'll drop down and she'll whiff). Her chapter isn't long, but there are a couple of hard fights to get through. For the one in the cherry blossom area in particular, it become a lot easier if you can delimb the Black Spider ninjas, and then drop down into the water and clear out the rest of the enemies that chase you. I wanted to just take them head on in that area, which was a struggle...
I'm just complaining here, but Momiji is still fairly fun to play despite her limitations. Her chapter has fantastic visuals, and I like the Tengu bosses. That said, I'm looking forward to controlling Ryu again.
