I needed a clock in my office, even though I'm surrounded by computers where I can see the time all the time, looking up at a clock is just more natural and quicker.
The first thing I did was to buy a high torque movement from eBay. I was after a movement where the clock hands would be as long as I could sensibly find. The specs are shown below for those interested. This cost me £7.59.
Pallet wood all came from work which I had cut up several months before hand so just needed to be machined up before it could be glued together. To give this some strength I opted for two layers, but to keep the wait down routed out as much wood as I could.
I also used the biscuit jointer for the first time when joining the pallet wood to allow for a better join. A review for the one I used will be on episode 245.
Due to the size I also opted to cut the circle on the band saw with my circle cutting jig (video Episode 138) and then do all further work with my two routers.
Pallet wood often has a lot of character with the grain which with the low weight was one reason I chose this, plus it was free wood.
The Nilfisk logo was attached like I do for scroll saw work and just routed out. The numerals were all hand marked out and cut with the router (attaching guides to keep straight lines).
This was then all sprayed with black paint before sanding back and finally finished with a gloss spray lacquer.
