A group of scientists, entrepreneurs, and institutional allies who cooperate to advance molecular machines, applications in energy, medicine, and material science, and long-term progress toward Richard Feynman’s vision of nanotechnology.
*Nicola Marzari | Feynman Prize Awards Ceremony *
*Theoretical and Computational Infrastructure for Atomically Precise Materials Discovery*
Nicola Marzari holds the Chair of Theory and Simulation of Materials at EPFL, where he also directs the National Centre on Computational Design and Discovery of Novel Materials MARVEL. He heads the Laboratory for Materials Simulations at the Paul Scherrer Institut and holds an Excellence Chair at the University of Bremen.
He took up the post of Cavendish Professor of Physics at the University of Cambridge (UK) in September 2025, transitioning there in 2026. Previously, he held the Toyota Chair for Materials Processing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was the inaugural Statutory Chair of Materials Modelling at the University of Oxford (UK). He received a Laurea in Physics from the University of Trieste and a PhD in Physics from the University of Cambridge.
Description: for the development of novel theories of heat transport at the nanoscale, including the exact relaxon solution of the Boltzmann transport equation, its coarse graining into mesoscopic viscous heat equations, and the introduction of the Wigner transport equation.
His research is dedicated to the development and application of electronic-structure simulations to understand, predict, and design the properties and performance of novel materials and devices.

*About The Foresight Institute*
The Foresight Institute is a research organization and non-profit that supports the beneficial development of high-impact technologies. Since our founding in 1986 on a vision of guiding powerful technologies, we have continued to evolve into a many-armed organization that focuses on several fields of science and technology that are too ambitious for legacy institutions to support. From molecular nanotechnology, to brain-computer interfaces, space exploration, cryptocommerce, and AI, Foresight gathers leading minds to advance research and accelerate progress toward flourishing futures.
