My first solo IFR flight didn't exactly go to plan. After a year of training and finally earning my instrument rating, I decided to take on a challenge: my first solo IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) cross-country flight from Oshawa (CYOO) to Mirabel (CYMX).
Even with a blue-sky day, the workload was intense. From a completely redesigned routing by Ground control to a "humbled" moment with a readback error, this flight was a massive learning experience. In this video, I debrief the entire flight, including the real-time radio calls with Toronto and Montreal Center, the transition to the RNAV approach for Runway 24, and the lessons learned when you're finally on your own in the cockpit.
