“No,” says Reddit’s Head of Community @Colleen Curtis. Earlier in her career, she was told she was getting a promotion, but the fancy new title didn’t come with a pay bump. Her boss told her:
✅ “We’ll catch you up at the next fundraise.”
✅ “We love your work.”
✅ “We see how much value you’re bringing.”
Eventually she left the company.
Curtis’ advice to anyone who’s experienced something similar is to be confident in negotiating. “This is not emotional. This is about how I’m continuing to nurture my own compensation path in line with the work and the benefit I’m bringing the company,” she said.
