The Younger Dryas comet theory holds that around 12,800 years ago a comet either impacted Earth or exploded in the atmosphere and caused widespread chaos, and a 2019 study found nano diamonds and impact particles in a layer of black sediment in South Africa, far from where most of the previous evidence had been concentrated, and now updated technology capable of studying each particle individually is making that evidence considerably more detailed.
