BBSRC | New Research: Real-Time Imaging of #Salmonella #Infection @bbsrcmedia | Uploaded April 2012 | Updated October 2024, 4 hours ago.
In a new study, researchers at Cambridge University have utilised advanced microscopy and mathematical modelling to challenge traditional assumptions about how #Salmonella infects #humancells.
This BBSRC-funded research offers new insight into the common #foodpoisoning bacteria and its infection mechanisms. Discover the full research findings here.
This video provides a live imaging demonstration of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, with one expressing green fluorescent protein (GFP) and the other expressing red fluorescent protein (RFP).
Through Z-stacks taken over time, the visualisation shows salmonellae within the cell as the RFP-Salmonella infects the macrophage. Watch as numerous GFP-Salmonella approach the cell but fail to infect it, until eventually one successfully infects the RFP-Salmonella infected macrophage.
Check out this video to see the fascinating and informative practical demonstrations of the Salmonella #infection mechanism.
