This month features Music of Resilience, presenting world premiere recordings by Ukrainian violinist Solomiya Ivakhiv, hailed by Fanfare as ‘one of the major artists of our time’. Exploring Ukraine’s war and rich musical heritage, the album brings powerful contemporary and Romantic works movingly to life. Also featured is the latest volume in the acclaimed Romantic Piano series, devoted to the piano works of Bedřich Smetana, the father of Czech music. Performed by Bogang Hwang, the programme includes the Piano Sonata in G minor alongside the complete Czech Dances, Books 1 and 2. Composed after Smetana had lost his hearing, the Czech Dances elevate traditional Bohemian and Moravian forms, whilst the Piano Sonata combines Romantic lyricism with Lisztian harmonic richness.
