The Extracted Elysian Elixir deck will be printed in a very limited run of 848 decks by the USPCC on their aristocrat stock with magic finish. The deck is a single gold gilded deck printed on white card stock, encased in a black tuck case. There’s a ultra limited (188 edition size) white version that’s only available as part of the two deck cabinet set pledge tier.
Previously on this channel we took a look at the wildly successful apothecary series 2 Kickstarter campaign and by extension the first two apothecary decks as well; 4 decks in total representing the 4 seasons; the Ponderings, Insights, Sentiments and Virtues. The fifth and final deck in the series is a culmination--and amalgamation--of the previous four; the Elixir deck.
The tuck box, printed at a Chicago area engraving shop, is gold ink on black matte cardstock in an impressive intaglio style. Meaning the pattern on the boxes is created by applying the metallic ink to an engraved metal plate resulting in a raised and textured surface of exquisite detail. It’s by far my favorite of all the tuck cases we’ve seen during the many apothecary offerings. As far as the design itself is concerned, it’s a familiar one. Very reminiscent of the design found on the previous decks in the series.
The back design is a mash-up of the previous back designs seen in the series. Most prominently; The primavera seed in the middle, The swirl of the inverno bark strips in the corner, and a mirrored representation of the leaves found on the fall inspired sentiments deck.
The design itself is just about entirely monochromatic save for the previously mentioned border and the seed in the center. There’s a thin white poker border as well.
The faces of the cards are virtually unchanged from the previous offerings with a few exceptions. The pips and indices remain the same. As does the layout and colors on the spot cards. The illustrations on the court cards are the same, even my beloved jack of hearts has returned, except that they’ve been slightly recolored. Perhaps the most interesting change is the inclusion of all four power aces from the previous decks. Which is a welcome touch.
Speaking of touch, the decks handle very well indeed.
