In this episode we take a look at a recently fulfilled kickstarter campaign centered around a deck designed for cardists, give you a chance to win one for yourself, and we announce the winner of the Mechanics Industries Optricks deck.
The IZO playing cards were announced via kickstarter in mid-2018, the final deck, printed by the United States Playing Card Company, recently shipped. I received my copy at the very beginning of November. The deck is designed by Felix Ha and features a USPCC standard style tuck box. Glossy cardstock, printed primarily in black, with no embossing. The front features the name of the deck treated in a logo style design. The words playing cards and the year of the decks inception. The front hints to the heavy reliance on geometric design, including some white concentric angles and some color block triangles in cyan, magenta and purple. The top reveals the designers name. The bottom has the traditional ad copy. The sides feature--once again--geometric 3D isometric shapes representing the four suit pips separated by small white circles.

Around it the hexagonal forms radiate outward creating a swirling pattern of color blocked triangles that give the impression of moving arrows. The small white circle reappears in opposite corners. The cardbacks are one way thanks in part to the gradient shading of the outer most lines in polygon, moving from magenta to cyan or vice-versa depending on which way the deck is oriented. The design creates some great fanning displays.
