Over the last 10 days or so, we've seen two real world automotive manufacturers introduce official content for Assetto Corsa, a title which hasn't seen any official releases from the developer since 2017. This, understandably raises some interesting questions - and that's the purpose of this think-piece.
If you haven't already seen, KTM have released a version of their X-Bow GT4 for Assetto Corsa, while Ferrari have announced a 488 Challenge that you can own by registering for the online leader-board challenge for their new Esport series.

Assetto Corsa Competizione version 1.8 is an impossibly large update. Kunos have added the 2021 GT World Challenge season, with all the entries, liveries, drivers and of course cars. Which means the new BMW M4 GT3, which theyve added as a free update. On top of that, the physics engine has been uprated to 400hz, which has garnered improvements across the board, but particularly in various nuanced areas of tyre simulation, suspension and force feedback. And on the graphics side, Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR have been implemented, providing performance improvements for those with appropriate hardware.

When you think about it, Sim Racing is a bit of a weird term. Most people use sim racing to describe any sort of racing game, from the most serious simulation focused titles like RFactor and iRacing to fun titles like Mario Kart. So, sim racing, is a... simulation of racing.
But for some reason, more hardcore sim racers use the term to validate the quality of the simulation between the various types of driving games: arcade, racing sim, and sim-cade. Arcade games are those that place more importance on gaming aspects than simulation, while racing sims place more emphasis on simulation, often at the expense of the gaming experience. And sim-cade is supposed to describe certain titles that sit somewhere in the middle.
