The next generation of neural implants will change the way we treat brain disorders, and they're being developed at Lawrence Livermore. In partnership with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and other research institutions, engineers at LLNL are creating brain-based healthcare devices that can record more information than ever before. This data helps us understand how the brain works, what's going wrong when someone's ill, and how to treat them. Such devices can also deliver chemical or electrical stimulation to parts of the brain, unlocking new possibilities for therapeutics.
