We properly tested the NEW JAC Hunter PHEV off-road, on-road, and timed its 0-100km/h to find out if it's ACTUALLY any good… and it wasn't easy.
For $49,988 (Hunter Pro) or $54,844 (Hunter X), you get 360kW of power and up to 1,010Nm of torque from a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine plus front and rear electric motors, front and rear locking differentials, and a real-world 6.6-second 0-100km/h.
We took it through mud, up rock climbs and into deep water to test its 550mm wading depth, to see if the Australian suspension tune actually fixed our issues from the pre-production car. The diff locks impressed us, the ground clearance did not, and yes, we got properly stuck.
On road, we cover the seat comfort (or lack of it), the laggy infotainment, and whether the suspension tune solved the bobbing and body roll from last time, plus a few quality niggles including a leaking sunroof and a Chinese-only boot-up screen.
So is the JAC Hunter PHEV actually good, or is it still not ready to take on the GWM Cannon Alpha and Ford Ranger? We break it down in today's review.
