Route 66 is changing fast, and some of the biggest new attractions on the Mother Road are rising in Tulsa, Oklahoma!
In this episode we hit the road on Historic Route 66 from Tulsa all the way to the Kansas state line, exploring the rapidly growing Meadow Gold District and the incredible collection of giant roadside icons created and championed by Mary Beth Babcock. We visit Buck Atom, Stella Atom, Cowboy Bob, Rosie the Riveter, Meadow Gold Mack, and the ever-expanding Land of the Giants area surrounding Tulsa's famous Meadow Gold Sign.
Along the way we explore new Route 66 businesses, vintage shops, local art, roadside attractions, collectibles, Americana, and a brand new diner helping breathe new life into one of the most historic stretches of Route 66 anywhere in America.
Then it's off down the Mother Road to see the brand new Blue Whale of Catoosa Visitor Center just before opening, one of the most anticipated Route 66 projects of the upcoming Route 66 Centennial celebration. We continue east through Oklahoma, stopping to see more giant roadside figures, historic landmarks, and classic Route 66 scenery before reaching the famous Sidewalk Highway near Miami, Oklahoma, where major preservation work and repaving efforts are helping protect one of the rarest surviving sections of original Route 66.
Finally, we follow the old road all the way to the Kansas border, crossing into the smallest Route 66 state and continuing our journey along America's most famous highway.
