The FREELANDER name is back, but the new FREELANDER 8 is very different from the compact sport utility vehicle many drivers remember. Developed through the partnership between Chery and Jaguar Land Rover, the FREELANDER 8 introduces the revived name as a premium electrified brand with serious technology and all terrain capability.
Size is one of the first surprises. The FREELANDER 8 measures 5,118 millimeters long with a 3,040 millimeter wheelbase and offers a spacious 2+2+2 seating arrangement for 6 passengers. Second row passengers get individual zero gravity seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions.
The dashboard is even harder to miss. A massive 46.3 inch panoramic display stretches about 1.2 meters across the cabin and delivers 8K resolution. It works alongside a 15.6 inch central display, while a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 processor handles the vehicle's advanced digital functions.
Power comes from an extended range electric system using a 1.5 liter turbocharged gasoline engine as a range extender. A 60.331 kilowatt hour battery provides a claimed 221 kilometers of electric driving range. The vehicle also features an 800 volt electrical architecture.
FREELANDER has not forgotten about off road capability either. The 8 features an intelligent all terrain system, front mechanical differential lock, rear electronic limited slip differential, and dual chamber air suspension.
With advanced Huawei driver assistance technology, luxury seating, enormous displays, and serious off road hardware, the FREELANDER 8 represents an ambitious new direction for a familiar name.
