The Toyota MR2 could be preparing for a major comeback, and this time the legendary mid engine sports car may have more than 400 horsepower. Our exclusive DPCcars renders imagine what a production version could look like.
Toyota Gazoo Racing is developing some very interesting technology that could eventually make its way into a new MR2. The GR Yaris M Concept uses Toyota's new G20E 2.0 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine mounted behind the driver, providing an important clue about the company's future performance car plans.
Toyota has also been developing a mid engine 4 wheel drive configuration, while reports have suggested the new G20E engine could support serious levels of performance. A possible 2028 introduction has been reported, although Toyota has not officially confirmed the MR2 production model, final specifications or launch date.
For these exclusive DPCcars renders, we imagined how Toyota could transform some of the design ideas seen on the FT-Se concept into a more production ready sports car. The result combines compact mid engine proportions, aggressive cooling openings and modern Toyota Gazoo Racing inspired performance styling.
