What is the purpose and importance of prophecies?⁠

This question is of particular significance to those of us living after the fulfillment of many of the prophecies of the Old Testament. If what they foretold already came to pass, what value do the prophecies still have?⁠

Perhaps those of us living in the New Covenant are equipped to benefit even more from the prophecies of old, having the light of Christ and His Church to aid us in interpretation.⁠
