Former Phoenix police officers Luis Vasquez Jr. and Antonio Felix face multiple charges after an unreported traffic stop in South Phoenix. Court documents show the two former officers turned off their body cameras, but investigators relied on digital evidence to piece the case together. The charges against Vasquez and Felix include aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, kidnapping, threatening and intimidating, hindering prosecution, and tampering with evidence, among others.
Despite missing body camera footage, investigators tracked the incident using data logged by Felix’s taser and automatic vehicle location technology. Forensic downloads from the taser revealed six safety activations and 29 electrical discharge events, corroborating the victim statements and matching reported burn mark injuries. Experts noted that patrol cars across the region feature GPS location services to track vehicles during emergencies and ensure accountability.
Vasquez was with the department for eight years, while Felix served for nine years before both were fired. During court proceedings, a Deputy County Attorney stated, "The state does believe this defendant, along with the co-defendant in this case, are a danger to the victims, the community, and a potential flight risk." Bail was set at $100,000, and the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office continues to review the case.
