Update as of Aug. 31: Only one person is considered missing following the flash floods.
As crews continue to look for people still unaccounted for after this weekend's flash flooding, we spoke with a plumber who was in the area with others when floodwaters arrived.
National Park Service crews initiated an aerial evacuation of "approximately 50 individuals" from the Phantom Ranch area after floodwaters surged through the canyon around 2:30 p.m. on August 29. As of the morning of August 31, at least two deaths have been reported, while 15 people remain unaccounted for.
Anyone who may know of hikers or backpackers that were in the inner canyon along the Bright Angel Creek corridor on Aug. 29, and anyone who had a campground reservation in that area, is asked to contact NPS' Investigative Service Branch (ISB) at 888-653-0009.
