Buckeye police are investigating an overnight double shooting near Sienna Hills Parkway and McDowell Road that left one man dead and a 17-year-old girl injured. Police identified the deceased victim as 36-year-old David Washington, who was found inside the home with fatal gunshot wounds. The 17-year-old victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after receiving initial treatment from responding officers.
Authorities arrested 22-year-old Jesus Perez, who is the former stepson of the victim. Investigators determined that all parties lived in the same residence and that an argument preceded the gunshots. An off-duty Buckeye police sergeant driving a marked patrol car arrived at the scene within minutes and took Perez into custody without incident after witnesses pointed him out to the officer.
Neighbors described waking up to police lights along the usually quiet street. Buckeye Police Department Public Information Officer Carissa Planalp noted that there is no ongoing threat to the community as investigators continue to determine the motive behind the shooting. Perez faces murder charges as the investigation remains active.
