New data from the 2025 Coroner’s Report, presented by County Administrator Brett Skyles, is giving the County Board a closer look at deaths in Itasca County.

Out of 460 total deaths, 65 were reviewed by the coroner:

• 27 accidents — including blunt force injuries, asphyxia, and overdoses
• 26 natural causes
• 11 suicides — up from 7 the year before
• 1 undetermined
• 0 homicides

Skyles says the increase in suicides is a concern and that mental health and prevention efforts remain a priority.
