Bunny chats to Pete Glassey, who has been head forester at Burghley Park for the last 30 years. Pete talks about  the difficult decisions he has to make concerning the  ancient lime avenues which were planted around 1690, one of which is over a mile long. The avenues were becoming unstable partly due to attack from the bracket fungus, Ganoderma austral, and also due to the relatively close planting at centres of 6m. Pete describes how he goes about the felling, propagating (to ensure the exact same clone) and replanting of these amazing architectural features.
