In an increasingly acute surgeon shortage, artificial intelligence could help fill the gap for medical students who need expert coaching as they practice surgical techniques.
Developed at Johns Hopkins University, the pioneering technology was showcased at the recent International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention where it won best presentation.
This model incorporates what’s known as “explainable AI,” or AI that will rate how well you close a wound and then tell you precisely how to do it even better.
