Never before behind the scene footage of what went into the making of "Never Hike Alone" A Friday the 13th Fan Film"
These clips were captured by the Womp Stomp Films team of Vincente DiSanti, Andrew Leighty, JD Martz, Christopher Thellas, Kyle Klein, and Jonathan Cabrera during our initial scouts of "College Camp," the a 30 year old abandoned camp that we discovered shortly after completion of the first trailer.
This sequence of events was an early "test sequence" that we could use to test out different equipment, times of day, and build an overall look and feel for the movie we wanted to create. Fans of Never Hike Alone may recognize the early workings of the final scenes that actually went into the movie.
As seen in the video, this camp featured a huge main hall that had beautiful architecture. The shots leading into the cabin almost made it into the final film, however the shot of Kyle rounding the back of the cabin was selected instead. These were the hardest shots to cut out in the whole film because they were the foundation of how the rest of the film was made.
It was also during these tests that we switched from BlackMagic to the Sony A7S II with a Shogun 4K Capture Monitor for a much more moody look. Much of this work is simply handheld or the A7 on a 3 foot Konova slider. This was helpful to shoot both Exterior and Interior scenes so we could test the range of the camera. We loved both it's picture quality and the low light settings. Usability was not always the greatest and proved to be very costly over the first half of production.
These are the days of Andrew Leighty really starting to own the character of Kyle McLeod. He really locked in the attitude and the emotion in both of these scenes. Aside from testing cameras, we were also testing wardrobe and overall look for the character. How the flashlights interacted without shutter.
