Taking the TOEFL soon? Make sure you donβt fall into these common traps!
In the Speaking section, donβt stop halfway through your answer. Even if you lose your train of thought, keep going! Long pauses or unfinished responses can cost you valuable points.
In the Writing section, avoid using complex vocabulary youβre not confident with. Itβs better to use familiar words clearly and effectively than to risk sounding unnatural or incorrect.
During the Listening section, donβt try to write down everything. Focus on key points: main ideas, transitions, and the speakerβs tone. Taking too many notes can distract you from actually listening.
For the Reading section, never start by reading the entire passage. Begin with the questions first, choose the right strategy, and then read only the parts you need. This saves time and helps you stay focused.
