Global News | Netanyahu says Israel has eliminated Nasrallah's successor, seized control of Hezbollah compound @globalnews | Uploaded October 2024 | Updated October 2024, 4 days ago.
Israeli forces have taken out the would-be successors of late Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday, without naming them.
"We took out thousands of terrorists, including (Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan) Nasrallah himself, and Nasrallah's replacement (Hashem Safieddine) - and the replacement of his replacement," Netanyahu said.
He added that Iran-backed Hezbollah was now "weaker than it's been for many, many years" after eliminating Nasrallah.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army said it had taken control of an alleged Hezbollah compound in southeast Lebanon. The compound, which the army claimed included residential buildings housing weapons and projectile launchers, was said to be in Maroun el Ras, which overlooks Israeli border communities.
