Billionaire tech executive Elon Musk cast the upcoming presidential election in dire terms during an appearance with Donald Trump, calling the Republican presidential nominee the only candidate “to preserve democracy in America.”

The CEO of SpaceX, Tesla and X joined Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday at the site where the former president survived an assassination attempt.

It was the first time Musk has spoken at a Trump rally, but online he’s made his political views very clear. Heather Yourex-West examines Musk’s evolving views and how he's amplifying conspiracies.

Springfield, Ohio, dealt with bomb threats for two straight days in September after the city was catapulted into the international spotlight when former president Donald Trump pushed a narrative, without evidence, about Haitian migrants during a presidential debate with Vice-President Kamala Harris. Vance refrained from pushing the pet-eating claim during Tuesday’s debate, but he doubled down on allegations that “illegal immigrants” are overwhelming Springfield’s infrastructure. That prompted a retort from the debate moderator. “Just to clarify for our viewers, Springfield, Ohio, does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status, temporary protected status,” CBS moderator Margaret Brennan said. Vance immediately protested the interjection. “Margaret, the rules were that you weren’t going to fact check,” he said, kicking off a fracas which eventually saw both candidates have their microphones muted by the debate moderators.
