Hurricane Milton made landfall Wednesday evening near Siesta Key off Florida's coast of Sarasota as a Category 3 storm, with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned of “life-threatening storm surge, extreme winds and flash flooding” over the Central Florida peninsula. Jackson Proskow reports.,

Computer models and data about this hurricane gave us a rough idea of where the storm would make landfall. But the storm is unpredictable, and how widespread the damage will be depends on exactly where it came ashore. Global Meteorologist Anthony Farnell is tracking the storm.

Hurricane Milton made landfall 13 days after Helene came ashore on Florida’s Gulf Coast. The Gulf of Mexico is a perfect breeding ground for late season hurricanes. And as Eric Sorensen reports, there’s every reason to believe big storms will be more frequent in the future.

Plus, scores of people were killed Wednesday in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to ignore global calls to de-escalate, even from his closest allies. There is particular concern for the humanitarian situation in Gaza and Lebanon, where millions of people are displaced. Redmond Shannon reports.

The question hanging over the fight between Israel and Hezbollah is how far the militia’s sponsor – Iran – will go. Iran has been a state-sponsor of terror groups for years and Canada and other countries have put up sanctions to isolate Iran and limit its reach. But Global News has learned two brothers evaded those sanctions and illegally shipped equipment to Canada. Nathaniel Dove has this story.

There appears to be no end in sight for the political gridlock in Canada's Parliament. Nearly all business in the House of Commons has ground to a halt because of a debate over giving unredacted documents to the RCMP, and the federal government is refusing to hand them over. Mackenzie Gray reports on what’s at issue and what it could take to settle the matter.

Artists occupy a unique place in society – communicating ideas, provoking though and evoking emotion. And editorial cartoonists do that every day. Michael de Adder is seen as one of the best. But De Adder recently announced he lost his job at the Chronicle Herald, where he’s worked for nearly 30 years. Mike Armstrong reports.
