네팔•중국 대홍수 사망자 1천명 넘어서… 실종자는 4천462명

The death toll from the catastrophic flooding along the Nepal-China border has now surpassed one thousand.
As families mourn the victims, rescue teams are still searching for thousands missing, including nine South Koreans who remain unaccounted for.

In Nepal's Chitwan district, Muna Khadka mourns her 21-year-old son, killed in the floods.
His body lies on a funeral pyre, as family members gather for one final farewell.
The tragedy is being repeated across flood-hit areas as the scale of the disaster continues to grow.
Nepal's disaster agency says 9-hundred 87 people have been confirmed dead, while 3-thousand 9-hundred 16 remain missing.
In China, 16 people have died, and 5-hundred 46 remain missing.
That brings the combined toll to 1-thousand three dead and 4-thousand 4-hundred 62 with their whereabouts unknown.
More than 11-thousand 8-hundred people have been rescued in Nepal so far.

"There is loss of life and loss of property as well. Many people have died in the floods. In terms of property loss, houses and land, everything is destroyed."

Meanwhile, search efforts are intensifying for nine South Koreans still unaccounted for.
A South Korean government rapid response team and the Nepalese Army carried out a joint search in the hard-hit Rasuwa region on Tuesday.
A separate ground team has also been using drones near areas where the missing Korean nationals had been staying and working, but authorities say no new clues have been found.
A 44-member Korea Disaster Relief Team is set to leave for Nepal at midnight to further support search and rescue operations.
Once there, the team will work with Nepalese authorities and focus its efforts on areas where the nine Koreans are believed to have gone missing.
