Neon Genesis Evangelion is a 1995 classic which I haven't even watched yet by the time of uploading this video. I heard the opening melody for the very first time from Marasy's 80s, 90s, and 2000s medley video with H ZETT M and Akai Ryuusei. I didn't realize it's Evangelion's opening theme at that point, and just recently found out because a friend of mine pointed it out. The song has always felt interesting for me. I'm usually not into this type of song, but there's something that keeps me listening over and over again and just headbang through it.
I just watched the anime opening for the first time a few days ago and was blown away by the animation quality. It's insanely good for a show from 1995, and the way it's synced to the music is mindblowingly awesome that I just have to put the overlay in the cover. I really can't stress enough how much I liked the opening as a whole, it might just be one of my newfound best openings of all time. Watching the opening alone really makes me can't wait to watch the show, which by the way is already in my list of things to watch. The intro feels incomplete without the choir, so I also added it in the video using Roland RP301's built-in sound (which by the way sounds amazing).

The sounds in this video came from only three things: Roland RP301 built-in sounds, Yamaha M1, with the unidentifiable background noise coming from something thats guaranteed to flip your head if I tell you so Ill just keep it a secret, its more fun that way :3
At the very beginning, I showed the video one by one, in the same order of when the track is played, each colour-coded so they turn full-colour when the notes are pressed. I meant that to give you a sense of where each of the sounds are coming from, and as you can see, they come from different tracks but blend together so beautifully.
About the soundtrack:
This soundtrack is played during Shouya and Shoukos 6th grade, the moment when Shouko asked to Shouya if she could become friends with him.
This is the 4th track on A Shape of Light album disk 1 by Kensuke Ushio for the movie Koe no Katachi. Another variation of this soundtrack is lvs(var) which has different instruments but has the same core melody.
I cant stress enough how genius Kensuke Ushio is. The inclusion of both musical and non-musical sounds really makes the soundtracks alive and unique. I cant imagine the film with other soundtracks, that would just feel wrong.
About this cover:
I didnt do a cover of lvs before this because the sounds in the soundtrack are so similar that accurately identifying each one of them to be recreated by playing on an actual instrument is near impossible. But then three days before making this, I watched Under The Scopes analysis of Koe no Katachi, which by the way is one of the best anime analysis video Ive seen. In that video he merged lvs and lvs(var) together, and it turns out to be really good. I thought to myself that I had to at least try, because its my 2nd favorite soundtrack in the film and Ive been wanting to cover it. His video pushed me into making this cover, so I owe him a thanks. Please see his video if you havent, his channel is severely underrated.

Fun fact:
I needed to play each track separately and had no idea how they would turn out after I mixed them together, and it turned out to be a near disaster. I almost dropped the project halfway during editing because the tempo was such a hot mess. It was already about 10 PM and the project was only about 20% done. Fixing the tempo of each track would take me a few additional hours and I was extremely tired because I worked on the cover right after driving for over 3 hours from Jakarta to Bandung. But then I decided not to drop the project, I had to finish this no matter what and just continue the next day, which is the best decision Ive made. I got all the time to fix the tempo in all audio tracks, further tweak the audio effects to get it as close to the original as possible, and best of all, I got the idea to colour-code each video when theyre shown together to turn from black and white to full colour when I press the notes. The extra editing effort makes the video much more alive. Heres the video after an additional 6 hours of editing on top of an already exhausting 5 hours.
About the project:
This cover consists of 51 audio and video tracks in total, making this the second most complex project Ive ever done after another Koe no Katachi OST cover, lit(var).

About the video:
This is a special video to celebrate this channels 7th anniversary. This channel was created on 17th February 2009 under the username raykrislianggi, and I uploaded my first video on 12th March the same year. Its been quite a journey. The day I created this channel, the thought of making piano covers and having viewers and so many subscribers enjoying my content this much never crossed my mind. My channel was pretty much as abstract as ones channel can be.
About the song & cover:
This cover is a fusion of three Connect arrangements, the first one being Marasys cover on YouTube, the second being Marasys cover on his Marasy Piano World album, and the third being my own arrangement. Marasys cover of Connect has been my absolute favorite among 1000+ songs that I have on my library for two years straight. His arrangement is so darn beautiful that I was moved to make a cover of my own using his arrangement as the main foundation. I recently found another version of his arrangement in his album, Marasy Piano World, and started trying to mix them together ever so slightly. Marasy was, and still, the most influential YouTube pianist for me. His arrangements are brilliant, not overly complex just for the sake of being complex, yet far from being simple, theyre just the right amount to be fully enjoyable. Hes the main reason why Im still making videos today, so I think its appropriate to make a celebration video related to his arrangements. Connect has also been my favorite song to play on piano since 2014.
This was learned entirely through hearing, no sheet music involved.

About the song:
Unlike language, music has no barrier. Its really wonderful how powerful music can be, how it bonds people together no matter who or where its composed. Ruang Rindu is an Indonesian song composed by Noe Letto in 2006, which was then popularized again and then translated into Japanese by Hiroaki Kato. The title literally translates to a room to miss someone, or can also be interpreted as a void in the heart for missing someone. The lyrics are very poetic and can be interpreted very differently.
Hiroaki Kato is a Japanese who first came to Indonesia in 2006 as a university exchange student, and was intrigued to introduce decent Indonesian songs to his home country, Japan. His current passion is to act as a bridge between Indonesia and Japan through music, and Ruang Rindu is one of his most favorite Indonesian songs. The song is also part of my childhood, so its really awesome that it became a hit again :). The original song is piano-based, and Hiroaki Katos version is guitar-based. Both Kato and Letto recently made a collaboration in to reintroduce the song and was received very well, gaining over 1.3 million views in just over three months. About the cover and arrangement:
This is my second full-length cover in my channel which isnt related in any way to anime. This arrangement fuses the original and Katos version together. Its played at the musical scale and length of Katos version, but takes many cues from the original version its piano-based. I was skeptical whether I should upload this or not since this isnt related to any anime or film in any way, but then I see this as a good opportunity to show that music has no barrier. Even if youve never heard this before, even if its composed by someone you dont know, you can still feel the passion, the sensation whether its happy or sad or inspiring, and the feelings put into making it.
Life update:
Im back~ but it wont be for long.
Im going through my final year in my university and am currently doing my final project, so I wont be (or rather cant be) fully active until May / June later this year. Ive had 13 other cover projects in queue which is very exciting, and I cant wait to finally be able to focus with my YouTube projects and music sheets again. But as of now, Im merely a part time YouTuber, and education is still my top priority. I can just imagine how happy Ill be to be an architectural engineer and a YouTube anime musician at the same time :p
