This is a special video to celebrate this channel's 7th anniversary. This channel was created on 17th February 2009 under the username "raykrislianggi", and I uploaded my first video on 12th March the same year. It's been quite a journey. The day I created this channel, the thought of making piano covers and having viewers and so many subscribers enjoying my content this much never crossed my mind. My channel was pretty much as abstract as one's channel can be.
About the song & cover:
This cover is a fusion of three Connect arrangements, the first one being Marasy's cover on YouTube, the second being Marasy's cover on his Marasy Piano World album, and the third being my own arrangement. Marasy's cover of Connect has been my absolute favorite among 1000+ songs that I have on my library for two years straight. His arrangement is so darn beautiful that I was moved to make a cover of my own using his arrangement as the main foundation. I recently found another version of his arrangement in his album, Marasy Piano World, and started trying to mix them together ever so slightly. Marasy was, and still, the most influential YouTube pianist for me. His arrangements are brilliant, not overly complex just for the sake of being complex, yet far from being simple, they're just the right amount to be fully enjoyable. He's the main reason why I'm still making videos today, so I think it's appropriate to make a celebration video related to his arrangements. Connect has also been my favorite song to play on piano since 2014.
This was learned entirely through hearing, no sheet music involved.

About the song:
Unlike language, music has no barrier. Its really wonderful how powerful music can be, how it bonds people together no matter who or where its composed. Ruang Rindu is an Indonesian song composed by Noe Letto in 2006, which was then popularized again and then translated into Japanese by Hiroaki Kato. The title literally translates to a room to miss someone, or can also be interpreted as a void in the heart for missing someone. The lyrics are very poetic and can be interpreted very differently.
Hiroaki Kato is a Japanese who first came to Indonesia in 2006 as a university exchange student, and was intrigued to introduce decent Indonesian songs to his home country, Japan. His current passion is to act as a bridge between Indonesia and Japan through music, and Ruang Rindu is one of his most favorite Indonesian songs. The song is also part of my childhood, so its really awesome that it became a hit again :). The original song is piano-based, and Hiroaki Katos version is guitar-based. Both Kato and Letto recently made a collaboration in to reintroduce the song and was received very well, gaining over 1.3 million views in just over three months. About the cover and arrangement:
This is my second full-length cover in my channel which isnt related in any way to anime. This arrangement fuses the original and Katos version together. Its played at the musical scale and length of Katos version, but takes many cues from the original version its piano-based. I was skeptical whether I should upload this or not since this isnt related to any anime or film in any way, but then I see this as a good opportunity to show that music has no barrier. Even if youve never heard this before, even if its composed by someone you dont know, you can still feel the passion, the sensation whether its happy or sad or inspiring, and the feelings put into making it.
Life update:
Im back~ but it wont be for long.
Im going through my final year in my university and am currently doing my final project, so I wont be (or rather cant be) fully active until May / June later this year. Ive had 13 other cover projects in queue which is very exciting, and I cant wait to finally be able to focus with my YouTube projects and music sheets again. But as of now, Im merely a part time YouTuber, and education is still my top priority. I can just imagine how happy Ill be to be an architectural engineer and a YouTube anime musician at the same time :p

My favorite Kimi no Na wa OST. Theres something really special about the harmony of the melodies and how it fits really well in the film. I thought it might be a great idea to try and recreate it with multiple piano tracks because the continuous B-C#-F# repetition is what gives the song a sparkle, and I went all out with this one. This video has 8 different camera angles, all shot in full HD 1080p at 30 fps.
Huge shout out to my university colleague Stella Viona for pointing this song out and asked me to do the cover, and Andre Lim for asking me to cover songs from Kimi no Na wa.

Oh my, where should I begin...
Honestly, this soundtrack matches perfectly with the overall theme of the film. Extremely simple tune, really easy to play, yet so unmistakably Kimi no Na wa. This is the soundtrack that keeps ringing in my head every time I remember the film. I found the song on YouTube just yesterday, and since it literally took 30 minutes to learn by ear and a while longer to polish, this actually leapfrogged my other projects which are also coming really soon.
This soundtrack has really similar feels and really reminds me of Little Busters! OST, Two Sugars. If you like this track, you might also like that one.
I kept the video simple. Two angles shot at 1080p, no fancy effects, just minor adjustments made.
I filmed the video right after I got back from the cinema after watching the film three times. Im still in awe, so thats all I can say for this one.

Im thoroughly hyped for the show. Not only does it look like animation budget abuse, the story seems really interesting and it looks absolutely beautiful. If the series look as good as in the CM and PV, it will be the most beautifully animated anime series ever. I swear KyoAni has been smoking rainbows. It has been one of my most anticipated shows since last year, cant believe I still have to wait half a year for it to air.
The shows CM 2 has a background music which continues into PV 1, so I thought Id stitch them together as an early guess since I cant find any official Violet Evergarden soundtrack as of now, and I dont even know if this song will make it into the show, but seriously, this soundtrack is under-appreciated. Ive seen many cover the main theme (Im not even sure if thats really the main theme), but havent seen anyone try out this one yet over a week after PV 1 came out, so I thought Id give it a try. For me, this soundtrack is the one which screams Violet Evergarden.
The musical structure reminds me a lot of Koe no Katachis OST, lit, although its atmosphere is entirely different. It starts mellow, goes really powerful in the middle, and ends mellow. A good music is like a story: it has an intro, buildup, climax, and conclusion. A characteristic which Koe no Katachis lit and this soundtrack has in common.

This is the second out of more Grand Piano Edition Covers coming very soon. The audio was recorded at ArtSound Studio Jakarta, mixed and edited by myself.
Connect has been one of my all-time favorites for quite a long time. The song is somehow really relatable to me, it feels like if my life were to be written into a song, it would be Connect. Its really melancholic yet so full of hope. It feels like the song is trying to tell you that no matter how hard life is, youll break through, youll succeed.
This arrangement is a fusion between two of Marasys arrangements and my own style. Just like Tell Your World, I knew the song for the first time from Marasys cover, which then led me to watching Madoka Magica... A year after... (I regret not watching it sooner)
