What’s the biggest fetal risk with uncontrolled gestational diabetes?

🍼 Excess maternal glucose = baby stores fat + overproduces insulin
📉 After delivery → baby’s insulin stays high, but no more glucose = hypoglycemia
⚠️ Also increases risk of macrosomia (very large baby), shoulder dystocia, and delivery complications

💡 Key NCLEX Intervention Focus:

Monitor blood glucose
Refer to the dietitian
Encourage moderate activity
Teach insulin/oral meds
Emphasize postpartum glucose monitoring
