Ermagerd! Sounds Bad! - Super Separator Trick (Bitwig style) Part 2 Baphometrix 2022-04-03 | In my previous video about de-masking with Dan Worrall's "Super Separator Trick" (but done the Bitwig way), a few people complained that the trick sounded "too phasey" (too comb-filtered). This is because I was exaggerating the effect to make its demasking easy to hear, and I assumed that Bitwig users would just download the rack and discover the "Attenuate" control for themselves. YouTube being what it is, that was a bad assumption on my part, so here's a video showing that you have all the control you need to achieve some appreciable de-masking WITHOUT too much noticeable "phasing" (comb filtering).Video link to the original Dan Worrall video. Demasking with The Super Separator Trick - the Bitwig way! KClip 3.5 Testing (versus 3.2.4) Baphometrix 2022-03-17 | Some of my viewers said the new version 3.5 of KClip 3 was problematic (on Windows), so I did some testing of 3.2.4 performance vs 3.5 performance. Summary: if you turn off the new visualizer, performance is essentially the same. If you enable the new visualizer, 3.5 uses up 15% more DAW CPU resources than 3.2.4. Also, the new visualizer is worthless. The old visualizer was much more useful for real-world use cases. On the plus side, you can make the KClip window nice and small in v 3.5.EDIT: Grrrr - OBS flaked on me during the very last part and didn't record the end. With 50 instances and the Visualizer turned OFF, the Load (AVG) (i.e., the "CPU usage") was 0.460. Which was exactly the same as 50 instances of the older 3.2.4 KClip. CONCLUSION - Turn off the worthless new visualizer and it's the same impact as 3.2.4, and you can at least make the window smaller now. Or just stay on 3.2.4 until Kazrog can improve performance and (hopefully) revert the visualizer back to a more useful "crest factor" view like before.

Loudness is in the Mix, not the Master! -6.4 integrated LUFS with NO limiter! Baphometrix 2021-12-18 | In this video I show you how you achieve MOST of your loudness with thoughtful mixing decisions, not through your mastering chain and mastering limiter. I'm demoing this principle on a nightmare bass-heavy track that has characteristics that typically make it really difficult to cleanly hit competitive loudness targets. This is NOT how you should really sequence and arrange your tracks in real practice. It's an artificial example of common mistakes that less experienced producers typically make in their sequencing and over-layering of sounds. (All of which make it *really* hard to get loud in a clean way, especially for bass music.) I'm showing you how even in the face of such newbie arrangement mistakes, you can still get competitively loud without destroying the mix. It all boils down to applying some basic mixing principles that are necessary for working in louder genres (especially in loud bass-heavy genres).You might notice I'm mixing with peaks hitting 0 dBFS.
