False 'doors' such as this are referred to as spirit doors or windows into paradise: a Naupa is an inhabitant of the spirit world, The site has been long used as a sacred ceremonial site to this day where it is said that contact with the spirit world can be made by those who bring offering and make ceremony in this ancient sacred and mystical place. Mystic Places, Magical Mystery Tour gives you a virtual tour and an inside look at this amazing archaeological site in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, between Urubamba and Ollantaytambo in the district of Pachar, in the middle of mountains is the archaeological site of Ñaupa Huaca. Its name means "sacred place of the ancestors". It is also known as "Ñaupa Iglesia". Inside the cave, we can see two monuments with a unique perfection.
The sacred Huaca houses an altar facing the milky way and a Niche or rectangular door, it is believed that the royal Inca mummies known as "Mallqui" were placed in the rectangular door.
The Incas were projected at certain times of the year, making nocturnal observations, they pointed out in the sky, above the edge of the hills, positions of stars and known constellations. While the movement of the Sun throughout the year marks significant dates in the sacred calendar of Tahuantinsuyo.
It had to be the place of great announcements of astronomical events associated with the fulfillment of rituals on specific dates of the agricultural calendar, the alignments show it.
