AlboPepper - Drought Proof Urban Gardening | Native Bird Nest in My Non-native Tree! Young Hatchling Baby Robins in My Backyard Urban Garden @Albopepper | Uploaded July 2016 | Updated October 2024, 6 hours ago.
What's going on!? I thought that you need NATIVE plants to be able to provide habitat for native birds. These apples aren't native to the US. Someone forgot to mention that to these baby robins!

I'm excited to share a quick little glimpse of my baby birds! These young robin hatchlings are the latest residents of my tiny urban garden. The robin decided to create a nest in the center of my columnar apple tree. I was surprised to peak in and see some little blue eggs after only a month.
The fruit trees in my backyard orchard, have a ground cover of strawberries. Yesterday I was harvesting berries and thought I would take a peak. Sure enough, the eggs had hatched! Often I've found little berries that have been nibbled on by neighborhood robins. But we're growing enough that we've been able to share. Now that the community is growing, we'll have to see how things work out.
I know that robins love earthworms. I've spent the entire Spring covering up the holes they've left in my beds. Supposedly, robins will eat other insects as well. I wish I knew what kinds. Perhaps they can assist with some organic pest control in the summer months!
