The title track of my debut album, Through These Rough Years. It is the 9th track.
This song takes all the various issues talked about through the duration of all the previous songs in the album, and reflects on them and how hopeless things may seem.
It deals with the various stages a person may go through as they deal with these issues; from desiring for things to be better, to considering just giving up, ending with the realization that you can't just give up after going through a lot, and that there is only one way to go when you hit rock bottom: Up.
LYRICS:
-Verse 1-
Here on my knees, I fall down
I bear so many scars from this town
I've gone numb to the pain,
Nothing can save me now
I fell in too deep, and I can’t get out
From these rough years
The voices within my head
They haunt me and torment me
When I’m in bed
This never ending frustration
It pulls at my patience
Can you please pull me out of this?
-Verse 2-
The monotony never ends
Judged by a number, I feel worthless
Sitting for hours,
Watching the halls
And at the end of the day
No progress is made
I’ve learned nothing at all
-Bridge-
Within the darkness
Tears from the sadness
Just make it end
The rage in my head
It’s all buried inside
I’ve lost all my pride
I can’t let it show
I can’t let them know
(x2)
-Verse 3-
Frustration, temptations,
How will I escape from this?
Rage and pain, all in vain
Please just let me end this now
Make this stop
With every passing second,
The pain rises and I’m gonna go insane!
Break down, open the floodgates!
Just make it end!
-Verse 4-
But if I just let go, in my heart I know, I’ll break the people who care for me
I must hold onto hope, whether or not I’m alone, I won’t be set free by an ending
No more hiding, I have to dig my way out of this cave
This is the end!
No more pain, no more suffering, break out today!
-Verse 5-
But every time hope comes
Something goes wrong again
I’m abandoned by luck
But that doesn’t mean I have to give up again
This isn’t the end
I can’t drop the fight, I can still see the light
There is always a light at the end of the tunnel
-Breakdown-
There is always a light at the end of the tunnel!
Break me out, let me free
I won’t hide in this cage any longer
Give up, let me be!
I’m finally free!
-Final Verse-
No longer in hiding
No longer depressed
No longer afraid
No longer frustrated
No longer caged
No longer stressed
No longer in pain
No longer suffering
I will live on!
