We finally did it, something I was never able to do in my career mode playthrough, 10 straight wins. Now tying us with Richard Petty for most consecutive wins. Also our 17th win of the season at this point. And with last race being Atlanta, that really didn't come easily. We had to work hard for it just like at Bristol the race before. With our championship rival finishing right there in 3rd, we gained very little in the points though. Up to a 335 point lead over Edwards in the Sprint Cup standings, nearly 7 full races worth. Gotta enjoy it now while we have it though as that's the largest it's ever going to get as this is the last race before the chase starts and the points get reset and my enormous lead greatly evaporates. Back to Richmond, the one place you seemingly just can not win at on champion difficulty no matter how hard you try. Didn't win either race in my career mode playthrough, didn't win the first race there this season, in fact that was my 2nd worst finish all season of 17th. So despite my best efforts, I fully expect my 10-race win streak to sadly come to an end here.
But I have a much better experimental setup for this one. I stupidly used one with Martinsville's gear ratios last time which was a monumental mistake giving me the worst restarts in the world. Here I've stuck to my traditional mostly default setup just with Michigan's longer gears. The top 10 in points plus the wildcard spots, the 2 drivers with the most wins 11-20th in points will make the chase. And the wildcard picture just got very interesting after Atlanta. The 2 wildcard spots were previously occupied by Kevin Harvick & Jimmie Johnson. But after a poor performance last race by Jeff Gordon knocked him out of the top 10 in points, now he occupies one of the wildcard spots, knocking his teammate Johnson out in the process. So unless Johnson wins this race, or Gordon does well enough here to get himself back into the top 10, Johnson could very well miss the chase entirely this season which would be a real shock. The points get reset to 2,000 plus 3 points for each win during the regular season, except for the 2 wildcard spots who start at 2,000 regardless of their wins. With our 17 wins, and I don't expect to win this race, we'll likely be starting the chase with 2,051 points which would give us exactly a 1 race head start on the competition to begin the chase. Which is still a lot, but that's also still a 6 race lead worth of points gone which is depressing. This is the last of what I have for right now so I’ll have to go and get more recorded & edited before we proceed on with the chase.
