Many ideas have been proposed for the formation of the Carolina Bays, including meteorite impacts, beaver ponds, fish nests, and the action of the wind on pools of water. Many unfounded ideas about the formation of the Carolina Bays persist even today when our knowledge has been enhanced by the broader perspective provided by similar basins found in Nebraska. This presentation discusses some of the most egregious ideas and identifies their flaws.
